Are You Getting Enough Alkaline?
Are you getting enough alkaline food in your diet? Dr. Robert Young believes that, for a majority of Americans, the answer is no. Typically, the ideal diet should consist of 75-80% alkaline foods and 20-25% acidic foods. For many of us, myself included, our diets are actually much closer 75% acid and 25% alkaline.
Consuming alkaline foods is critical to your health. As Dr. Young has stated, “regulating your body’s acid/alkaline chemistry through simple changes in diet can result in weight loss, increased stamina and strength, a stronger immune system and a greater sense of well being.” This is why it is important to consume about 3-4 times as much alkaline foods as acidic foods.
It can be difficult to eat a lot of alkaline foods because acidic foods are typically much more appealing and tasty to most people. Luckily, Dr. Young and his wife, Shelley, have written a book called “The pH Miracle.” This book is full of alkaline recipes that taste good and are also good for you.
The recipes in the book include a variety main dishes, salads, snacks, desserts, shakes, drinks, & sauces. So, for example, for a meal you could have Romaine Peppered Salad, Rawsome Redford Pizza, Fresh Silky Almond Milk to drink, and Super Soy Pudding for dessert. All of these recipes fit in with the 80% alkaline, 20% acid ph miracle diet.
In addition to meals, there are also many alkaline foods you can snack on. Certain nuts like almonds, hazel, macadamia, pecan, pine, pumpkin, walnuts, and sunflower seeds are very alkaline and are rich in protein, minerals, fats, and vitamins. Taking a bag of these kinds of nuts to work and snacking on them throughout the day is a great way to alkalize your diet.
Another thing you can do to raise your pH level is drink alkaline water. There are special filters out there that alkalize and filter water. This type of water is much more alkaline than regular water. Dr. Young also sells this kind of water in bottles. Purchasing a regular water filter will also make your water more alkaline. It will not be quite as high on the pH scale as alkaline water, but it will still be better for you than regular tap water.
If you just can’t get enough alkaline foods in your diet, you may want to think about taking supplements. There are several product out there such as liquid chlorophyll, iron, calcium, and magnesium, that make your body more alkaline.
